Use & Care

  • Do not use over direct heat, in a microwave, or in an oven. The lacquer coating might peel off. There are also risks of deformation and fire.
  • Do not put it in the dishwasher.
  • Do not soak in water for a long period of time. Wipe them using a soft cloth. Remove the oil stain in the warm water mixed with dishwashing liquid.
  • Avoid using them in the fridge. Also avoid storing under direct sunlight or in an extremely dry place. These can cause the colors to fade.
  • Stop using it when there is a crack, a chip, or a fissure. Also stop using when the painting or the lacquer peeled off.

Echizen Shikki has a share of over 80% of the national market for professional-use lacquerware production. Sabae, a city in Fukui Prefecture, Echizen Shikki-producing area, has developed thanks to about 1500 years of traditional techniques. It is characterized by the production process, with each expert working in a division of labor. This leads to stable quality of lacquerware in terms of beauty and robustness, as well as high production capacity.
